Landowner Engagement
Access to cultural knowledge is everywhere in Texas, starting with the soil beneath our very feet. Over 95 percent of the land in Texas is privately owned. Landowners play a significant role and are critical in preserving heritage sites. Through our landowner engagement program, we conduct outreach efforts across the state every year. We partner with landowners in a variety of ways; providing research, leading excavations, or connecting with communities. We are dedicated to working with landowners to equip them with the best resources for archeological and historic site preservation.
Paint Rock Project
The Paint Rock Pictograph Site, located on private land in west central Texas, has been protected by local landowners, the Campbells, for more than a century. Over the past few years, we have collaborated on this project with representatives from the Comanche, Lipan Apache, and Pakahua communities to include a collection of narratives about the rock art and archaeology at this sacred site. The overarching goal of this research is to create a space where indigenous communities and researchers can come together and learn about the site relationally.
Workshops
Want to learn more about the places and stories around you? We would love to be part of your journey to discover best practices in archaeology, cultural collaboration, and ethical preservation. We create custom workshops to meet the needs of you and your community. We want to make learning about archaeology and preservation accessible to everyone, from students to elders, whether in the field, in the classroom, or online. We want everyone to be able to experience the world around them through the stories of those who were once there.
